CC stands for carbon copy while BCC stands for blind carbon copy. Use CC when you want to send a copy of an email to a recipient. Use BCC when you want to send a copy but hide the recipient's email address. CC and BCC are standard fields you'll see in your email inbox. But what does CC mean anyway? What does BCC stand for?

Just like CC, BCC is a way of sending copies of an email to other people. The difference between the two is that, while you can see a list of recipients when CC is used, that’s not the case with BCC. It’s called blind carbon copy because the other recipients won’t be able to see that someone else has been sent a copy of the email.

BCC stands for “blind carbon copy.” Unlike with CC, no one but the sender can see the list of BCC recipients. For example, if you have in the BCC list, neither Bob nor Jake will know that the other received the email. Someone on the BCC list can see everything else, including the CC list and the contents of the email.

How do I add cc & bcc to an email draft?

To the right of the “To” line of an email draft, you’ll find options for CC and BCC. Click either one (or both) to bring up new lines, and include email addresses as relevant there before sending your email. If you’re using Outlook, CC will be available by default, and you’ll have to click BCC (to the right of the To field) to add a line for it.
